Advancing standards & patient safety since 1962

The Sterilizing Research and Advisory Council of Australia (NSW) Inc. (SRACA) is the peak professional body representing practitioners in sterilizing technology. Established in 1962, SRACA NSW is dedicated to promoting high standards of practice in sterilization and disinfection services.

Education & Collaboration

Institutional Collaboration

The Council collaborates closely with leading health entities such as the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC), TAFE NSW, and Standards Australia to ensure up-to-date education, compliance, and clinical guidance for the reprocessing workforce.

Est. 1981 Journal

Sterilization in Australia Journal

A cornerstone of knowledge dissemination since 1981, founded by pioneers Jonathan Milligan and Tony Mercieca. Published in June and December, covering microbial control, veterinary/dental reprocessing, and microbiological laboratory safety.

Governance & Constitution

Committee Responsibilities & Governance

The Executive Committee operates under strict compliance with the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 and SRACA NSW Constitution.

Core Committee Duties

  • Ensuring Council activities align with the Council Constitution and financial dealings follow accounting standards.
  • Developing and maintaining member records across NSW health districts.
  • Publishing regular newsletters and technical journals for members.
  • Organising annual conferences, state seminars, and regional workshops.
  • Providing clinical interpretation on Sterilising Standards (AS 5369:2023).
  • Advising government departments and health authorities on sterilising technology.

National & International Representation

  • Active membership in the **Federation of Sterilizing Research & Advisory Councils of Australia (FSRACA)**.
  • Representation on **Standards Australia Committees** for clinical standards review.
  • International affiliation with the **World Federation for Hospital Sterilisation Sciences (WFHSS)**.
